Carrol Njeri & Kimemia on Kenya Through My Eyes| I Know Great People

Carrol Njeri & Kimemia, founders of Art Porium Kenya, mutual friends to Mwatika and fellow locked up follicles folk joined me on I Know Great People to talk about the upcoming “Kenya Through My Eyes” project we will be putting on from December 18th to December 28th 2026. Though this will be built on Mwatika’s successfully getting the world record of 240 hours of painting, the event will also highlight the value of creativity and exhibit the myriad ways we experience Kenya through our eyes.

Shall be sharing a lot more about this event as we get the details set but please start sending in questions, suggestions, requests and more if you are interested in attending or taking part!

Elvis Elvarki on animating himself into an animator | I Know Great People

Elvis joined me in I Know Great People in the same intentional way he has come into his creative self. Hearing about how Elvis took advantage of opportunities and sought out resources for his personal growth was reinforcing conversation for the 1 Million Thriving Artist goal of seeing 1 Million Thriving Artists on the African continent. Especially in contrast to the last conversation with Baraka, a veteran of the creative industry in Kenya, about how entering the various fields were 25 years ago.

Be like @elviselvarki in pursuing what you want to achieve and that can in no way hurt to eventually achieving your goals.

Baraka Amunga on his development in Kenya’s design industry | I Know Great People

About a year ago I was telling my cousin Baraka about 1 Million Thriving Artists, a Creative Collaboration Community I was getting going here in Kenya, which led to him telling me he had been part of founding The Art Directors of Kenya which I had joined on Facebook over a decade ago. Finding that out I wanted to organize a conversation where I could pick his mind abut that process for to see how we could avoid certain challenges in 1MTA. Now we finally linked up for I Know Great people and it is another great conversation!

Wide ranging conversation about his design and professional history, some family lore, documentary about Kenya’s design Industry, planting seeds for future collaboration and much more. Anders Mikkelsen on Augmenting Network Communications | I Know Great People

Though I’ve gotten to know certain aspects of Anders Mikkelsen pretty well from being friends on social media, before he accepted the invite to be on I Know Great People, I had no idea what he did professionally. Appreciate him taking time to come on and I tried to work in some of the suggestions he had of how we could talk about his work as a Communications Network Systems Specialist. His History degree is more in line with the sorts of things we’ve discussed and meshed on over the years though, and I expect he will be back on for more.

Inaki Basuri on finding his world through Rugby | I Know Great People

I got to know Inaki Basuri as a teammate in our American football high school team and recall him getting into rugby at that early age and vaguely remember him really enjoying it. He not only enjoyed it but thrived playing professionally, representing nationally and and continuing to be in the rugby world. In this conversation we get to know how he grew as a person through rugby, found his world and started a family.
